Bifold Door Service Melbourne
Aluminum bifold doors, or folding doors as they are also known, are popping up all over Australia, especially in Melbourne. They defiantly have an upside, but even more significantly, they have a real downside. I've written about this in a previous article Aluminium bifold doors.
We've been repairing doors for over ten years, and these doors are by far the most contentious. Minor technical issues at any time can deam them unrepairable. On the other hand, a wood bifold door is almost always repairable; i can't remember the last time we couldn't fix one.
One of the issues with aluminum folding doors is the hardware and the design itself. Even though we have many aluminum door and window manufacturers in Australia, the hardware itself is almost impossible to obtain once the warranty period is over. The hardware and new design of the doors are specific for each model. If your door is several years old, the hardware would likely be redundant or impossible to source.
Parts Such as the Hangers, guides, rollers, carriages, pivots, hinges, and so on all function in tandem. Therefore it's essential to source the correct hardware model.
As previously mentioned, we've been repairing doors for a very long time, and these types of doors and systems aren't always repairable for the reasons above. Even more damning is the frame itself. Whether you have a three-bifold door set up or six, property foundations nearly always move over time, and more significant issues can arise. Being aluminum, the chances of repairs are slim if the frame drops around 5/10mm, causing the doors to scrap or get stuck, which is the case in 50% percent of our jobs. In such a scenario, most customers are in a dilemma between an expensive fix, like lifting the frame attached to the structure or purchasing a whole new setup, a preferred upsell by all manufacturers. Unfortunately, replacing the doors is expensive if you've reached this stage, but that's the likely choice of option.
Of course, it's not always the worst-case scenario that plays out. I've managed to save a lot of customers from having to replace their doors. Over the years, we developed a helpful skill set to achieve many positive results. To see if your doors are repairable, contact us before deciding to replace everything.
